School Newsletter 21 June 2016
Dear Parents and Carers,
Church Class had a wonderful time visiting Harlow Carr and some of their work is on display in the school corridor for you to see.
Our School Eco-Warriors attended the Summer Celebration at Harlow Carr last Thursday and had a brilliant day. Yesterday I received a letter to inform me our school was a prizewinner! Thomas Pullan, in Year 6, won first prize in the ‘Guess the herb’ competition and has won a fruit tree and a compost bin for the school. Well done Thomas!
Congratulations to the Kwik Cricket team from Years 5 and 6 who played in two competitions last week. The first, held last Thursday, saw the team win the cluster competition. On Friday they participated in the Hambleton area competition at Northallerton Cricket Club and achieved a bronze award. Well done to our cricketers!
Our Year 6 pupils have now completed their Bikeability training and have been awarded their certificates, these come with a personal report and cycling advice on the reverse. Well done cyclists!
Year 5 have also completed Forest Schools and whilst I await the final written feedback I have been told they were an amazing group to work with and I know they all had a fantastic time.
Armed Forces Day for Service Children
Mrs Ward and Mrs Chester accompanied our Service children who attended a celebratory event at Catterick Garrision last Friday. Kieran was presented with his prize and I am told a memorable day was had by all.
Red, White and Blue Day
Thank you to all the children for dressing in red, white and blue to celebrate Armed Forces Day which is celebrated nationally on Saturday 25th June. Many children were out of school on this day but we still raised £44, thank you for your contributions.
The Year 4 had a fabulous day at Carlton Lodge yesterday and couldn’t believe it when it was time to return to school!
As tradition has it, the whole school waved off the Year 6, Miss Allan and Mrs Dixon on their way to East Barnby yesterday morning. All have settled well, beds made and dormitories up to standard ready for inspection when I arrived last night. The children had a great afternoon beck scrambling and they achieved this with success. They enjoyed a hearty spaghetti bolognese for their evening meal before playing ‘Aliens’, an adaptation of orienteering around the East Barnby site. I was quite surprised when the children didn’t take up the option to watch the England match but in true Kirby Hill style many chose to finish off their evening with their own game of football whilst others had quiet time in their dormitories.
Today they have a day of canoeing to look forward to and enjoy.
Star Writers and Stars of the Week
Our star writers from last week are Jessica Graham, Lauren Shepherd, Szymon Wozniak, Ella-Grace Foster and Cole Johnson.
Our Stars of the Week are Sienna Moore, Colton Cooper, Millie James, Lydia Bradley and Jack Thomas.
Well done to all these children.
Parent Governor Nominations
Firstly could I say many thanks to our current Parent governors for their service to the school over the past four years. Mr Pullan’s term of office ended this month, and both Mrs Leverett and Mrs Richardson’s term of office will end on the 1st September 2016. Thank you all.
Welcome to our new parent governors with effect from 1st September, Mr Evans, parent of Isabelle in Church Class, and Mr Cunningham, parent of Cameron in Minster Class and Paige in Church Class. Many thanks for taking on this commitment to the school. There is still one vacancy for parent governor, if you are interested, please collect a nomination form from the school office and return to me by Wednesday 29th June, thank you.
