Effort Shield

Congratulations to Mia from Willow Class for achieving the Effort Shield last week.  Well done!

Well done to the Year 1 and 2 children who achieved a bronze medal in the Quadkids competition.

Thank you for sending in the flat stones which the children decorated last Friday to celebrate the special milestone of the school’s 150th birthday. Tomorrow a group of Year 6 will arrange them outside for you to see.

East Barnby

Our Year 6 had a wonderful visit to East Barnby. They had lots of fun but above all listened, followed instructions and were polite. All the children achieved the John Muir Award. This includes four challenges – discover a wild place, explore it, conserve it and share your experiences.

Thank you to Miss Allan and Mrs Cockerill for volunteering their time to accompany the children on the visit. We hope Oak Class, Miss Allan and Mrs Cockerill have an equally enjoyable and worthwhile experience at Carlton Lodge today and tomorrow.

Egg Shells

Many thanks for sending in eggshells for Messy Church this Friday. For health and safety reasons we would be very grateful if you could wash the eggshells before sending them into school.

PTA Film Night

At the end of school on Friday 30th June the PTA will be holding a Film Night. For Nursery, (with an adult), Reception and KS1 the film will be Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and will be shown in Chestnut Class (Mrs Mackay’s room). The film for KS2 will be Hook and will be shown in Elm Class (Mrs Garner’s room). To help the session go as smoothly as possible please register your child’s attendance on the sign-up sheet in the main school entrance. The cost is £3 per child and includes a drink and a snack.

After School Club

Thank you to all parents/carers for using the ParentPay system to pay for school activities, lunches and clubs, including Breakfast and After School Club. As the end of the year approaches it would be helpful if all accounts are paid up to date as soon as possible. We would be very grateful for advanced notice of any cancellations for After School Club. If places are booked and then no longer needed please cancel by 1pm on the day or the charge will be incurred. On occasions when pupil attendance for After School Club is greater we book additional staff and their costs still need to be covered. Thank you for your understanding with this.

Lost Bracelet

A silver bracelet was found near the main gates and remains unclaimed.  Please ask at the office if you are missing this item.

Keeping Safe

For those of you with children older than the primary age range Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Teams within North Yorkshire Police would like to make parents aware of the following update that has released on snapchat.
If your children have the Snapchat app and GPS on their phone please take a look at this.

It seems with the new update there is a new feature on Snapchat. When you open the app place two fingers on the screen and drag them together 'pinch' just like when zooming out on an interactive map. This will then open the new feature. It shows your location with near exact accuracy and can be only a couple of metres wrong. This means people can see exactly where you are at any time.

To turn this off there is a settings button in the top right and can turn the feature to ghost mode. This will hide your location from others. Also turn off the phones GPS as an extra level of security.

If you need any help please contact your phone provider or visit an O2 store and speak to one of their gurus. This is a free service and regardless of the network you are on. The gurus can help with any technical questions and security advice.

Please remind your children to only have 'friends' on these who they actually know, this will keep them safer online.

Please also be mindful features like this could be used by criminals, knowing when you're out or even where you live. Always be mindful of posting pictures with cycles and such which would show people exactly where you store them. Then show when you are out.

Sports Afternoon

Our school sports afternoon will be held on Monday 17th July at 1:10 pm. We hope you will be able to join us.

Yours sincerely,
