Class information

Mrs CunninghamMaths

We are currently on the addition and subtraction unit of learning for maths. Please
see below links to the White Rose home-learning teaching videos if you would
like to support your child's learning further at home.

PE

For Autumn 1, Darwin Class have P.E. on a Tuesday with Mrs Hedar and on a Monday with Mr Vitali from Sporting Influence.

Please make sure the children wear their PE kits to school on those days. Earrings must be taken out for PE and long hair tied back, for health and safety reasons. If earrings cannot be removed then an adapted PE session will be implemented for these pupils.

French

The Y3 pupils will have a specialist teacher, Madame Heap, teach them French each week. Children are encouraged to practise their learning using Duolingo. Below are some websites to reinforce work done in lessons:

les-nombres-1-10 whack a mole

les numeros-1-10 match up

numbers to 10

French numbers to 10 games

Music & Computing

Music and computing is taught on Thursday mornings by specialist teachers from Junior Jam.

What have we been learning?

In Autumn 1, we enjoyed learning about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and the Iron Age - we were able to see how thing developed over the periods of time. We used the story Stone Age Boy to develop our own stories in a similar style. In Science, we had great fun creating our own magnetic fishing game after learning about forces and magnets. We were able to test them out to see which magnets were the strongest.

Homework

Although we do not set formal written homework, we expect that children will:

  • Read daily at home, individually and with an adult, and record in their reading diary. Reading daily not only improves their reading ability, but also has a significant impact on their writing ideas and spelling accuracy.
  • Practise the weekly spelling rule. This could be on Spelling Frame and /or with written practice.
  • Practise their mental maths or areas of maths that need reinforcing (Sumdog is a great fun way to do this)
